Improving the habitat for endangered forest species

Old and rotten trees are the foundation of life to a vast part of the endangered beetles, birds, mosses and fungi of the forests. A new research project is going to clarify exactly how many decaying stems are needed to ensure good living conditions for the species in question, as well as how we can facilitate greater biodiversity in the forests using simple and inexpensive means.

The experimental part of the project will take place in Gribskov forest, but the conclusions will be relevant for forest management across the country. The research results will be published as a handbook for forest managers. The project is a collaboration between CMEC and the Danish Nature Agency.
