Center for Macroecology, Evolution and Climate hosts the workshop together with the Danish Coordinating Office for IPBES. The project receives financial support from the Nordic Council of Ministers and a number of national governmental agencies, but also relies on voluntary contributions from the participating experts and their institutions.

IPBES, is an international body associated with the United Nations founded in 2012. An important overall aim of IPBES, and the Nordic study, is to provide policy relevant information on the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and its contribution to long-term human well-being and a sustainable development in general.
